US places Category Breakdown API

What it does

Category Breakdown gives you a count of locations by category inside a geographic bounding box. Send min_lat, min_lon, max_lat, and max_lon, and optionally set limit to control how many categories are returned.

Use it when you need to understand what kinds of places exist in an area before rendering a map, filtering search results, or summarizing local inventory. The response is a JSON object, so you can work with the breakdown directly in your app without extra parsing steps.

Category Breakdown is a good fit for location analytics workflows where the same area needs to be inspected repeatedly at different zoom levels. For example, you can compare restaurant-heavy neighborhoods, measure the density of retail categories around a store site, or build a map legend from the most common place types in view.

The service accepts only bounding-box coordinates and a result limit. It returns a JSON object containing the category breakdown for places within the specified bounding box, along with related metadata.

What it does

Returns a category breakdown for places within a bounding box defined by latitude and longitude limits. The request is made with query parameters only.
