Search US Places API

What it does

Place Search lets you look up places by text query and get matching location results back in a structured response. Send a query, and optionally set limit to control how many matches you want, up to 200.

Use it when you need place lookup inside a booking flow, a map search box, or an address autocomplete feature. The endpoint is built for simple search-driven discovery: you provide a name or place phrase such as " Station", and the API returns the matched places in its response body.

Because the response schema is open-ended, you should treat the returned payload as a searchable place result set rather than a fixed record shape. That makes Place Search useful for integrating with mapping UIs, location pickers, nearby search, or internal tools that need to resolve user-entered place names into API results.

If your application needs fast place discovery from free-text input, Place Search gives you a minimal query interface and a flexible result payload for downstream filtering, display, or ranking.

What it does

Searches for places matching a text query and returns a JSON object. The response shape is not yet defined in the output schema beyond being an object with additional properties allowed.
